The Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians together with the Paediatric Nursing Association organized the 8th Annual Paediatric Nursing Congress which was held on the 5th of August 2016 at the Grand Crystal ballroom of the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo. The Chief Guest was the Honorable Minister of Health,  Dr. Rajitha Senarathne and Dr Palitha Mahipala, Director General of Health Services was the Guest of Honour. In his address, Dr Rajitha Senaratne congratulated the Sri Lanka College of Paediatrician for organizing such a vibrant scientific  Congress.

The theme for this year was “New horizons in Paediatric nursing care”.  Disaster management of children, emergency paediatric care and new challenges in paediatric nursing were also discussed.  The theme is appropriate in the current context as not only Sri Lanka but also the whole world is facing many natural and man-made calamities.The nursing officer plays a pivotal role in overall care of the children affected by disasters. Emergency management of children is also another important area that was covered at this congress.
Also discussed was the Neonatal transport service which was initiated as a pilot project at Lady Ridgeway Hospital in 2013 under Dr Ramya de Silva and is now being rolled out to the entire country.
More than 200 nurses from all over the country participated in this event and more than 12 specialist consultants and senior lecturers in nursing took part at the Scientific Sessions as resource persons.
