Neonatal Transport Service was introduced to the Sabaragamuwa Province on the 3rd of March 2017 at the the workshop held at the Provincial General Hospital, Ratnapura under the patronage of  Dr. S.P.L,Ranaweera, Director, PGH, Ratnapura. Dr. Kumudini Cooray, Consultant Paediatrician in Charge of the Neonatal Unit at PGH, Ratnapura was the coordinator of the programme.

 

In accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Health to introduce Neonatal Transport as a national service, Sabaragamuwa was the 5th Province to be given the training to initiate the service.

 

37 participants representing all the hospitals in the Province were trained  at the workshop. Consultant Paediatricians in Charge of Neonatal units, SHOs, MOs and the Nursing Officers were among them. All the participants were given a copy of the comprehensive manual on Neonatal Transport.

 

The Resource team was Dr. Ramya de Silva, Dr. Kapilani Withanachchi, Dr. Ranmali Rodrigo, Dr. Nishani Lucas, Nursing Officers Nanda Ilanganthilake and Sangeetha Wijewardena. The programme was concluded with the award of certificates of participation.
