Pre Intern Training Progamme

The Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians commenced Pre-intern modules in 2015. Prof Sujeewa Amarasena, President in 2015, initiated this programme with the Ministry of Health. Dr P.G.Mahipala the Director General of Health Services in 2015 facilitated the funds for the programme through the Deputy Director General of Health Services (Education, Training & Research) of the Ministry of Health. At present this programme is coordinated by the DDG MS(11) under the patronage of the DGHS.
The objective of the programme is to provide knowledge and skills in handling Paediatric Medical and Surgical Emergencies. This is important as a number of doctors who qualified from overseas universities with varied backgrounds of medical training joining the Government Health Service.
Programme consists of Paediatric and Neonatal resuscitation, Paediatric trauma, Paediatric and Neonatal emergencies. Details are given in the web site. www.slcp.lk/pre-intern-training-progamme/. Participants can download the pre-course material from this site. Pre-course MCQ of NLS and PLS will help you to read the manual. Participants will have to do the on-line pre-course MCQ paper and post-course MCQ paper.
A certificate of participation will be given to those who completed the two days of lectures, one day of hands on skills training and pre and post course MCQ papers. This programme is held in nine provincial centres and handled by the National Coordinator for Education & Training of the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians. Provincial Centres include Kandy, Karapitiya, Sabaragamuwa, Badulla, Batticoloa , Anuradapura, and Jaffna.
In order to develop personal competencies, they can join courses conducted by College of Paediatricians on a monthly basis.

- Advanced support of the airway and ventilation
- Cardiac arrest management and defibrillation
Seriously ill child:
- Breathing difficulties
- Dengue shock
- Abnormal pulse rate and Cardiac dysrrhythmias
- Decreased conscious level
- Convulsing child
- Snake bite and poisoning
Seriously injured child:
- Chest injury
- Abdominal injury
- Head trauma
- Spinal injury
- Burns and scalds
- Electrical injuries and drowning
- Airway and breathing
- Basic Life support
