Regional Sessions are held in apex centres in the periphery to update medical professionals regarding current practices and state-of-the-art paediatric healthcare. It is usually undertaken as a physical session providing an opportunity to those who serve in the periphery to share their views, knowledge, and experience. Three to four sessions are organized during a tenure of a Council, concentrating on main centres in the provinces of the country.
Anuradhapura Regional Scientific Sessions – 2024
Bridging Gaps in Paediatric Care: Empowering Doctors, Nurses and Midwives
The Regional Scientific Sessions 2024, organized by the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians was successfully held on the 25th and 26th of November 2024 in Anuradhapura. This year, the sessions were enhanced by introducing workshops specifically tailored not only for doctors but for nurses and midwives, focusing on basic practical topics.
The main aim of these workshops was to identify areas where care could be improved, address incorrect practices, and equip participants with practical skills to enhance their professional care delivery. Adding to the excitement, a live quiz was organized for both doctors and nurses, which significantly increased engagement and interest.
The sessions were an overwhelming success, with remarkable enthusiasm shown, particularly by the midwives and nurses. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Education, Training & Research of the Ministry of Health for funding the midwife and nurse sessions and to our industry sponsors for their generous support of the doctor sessions.
We also deeply appreciate the invaluable contributions of all the paediatricians in Anuradhapura, the Regional Director of Health Services, and the Director of Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura. Their support was instrumental in making this event a memorable and impactful one.
Galle Regional Scientific Session 2024
The Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, in collaboration with the Galle Medical Association, successfully conducted the CME sessions for doctors and nurses, each addressing unique areas of medical practice and professional development.
- Inauguration Ceremony
The regional sessions were inaugurated with a formal ceremony held on 2nd October 2024, at the Jetwing Hotel in Galle. Attending pediatricians and other healthcare professionals engaged in a productive discussion on clinical practices, recent advancements and the challenges faced in providing healthcare for children within the Galle district. - Pre-Congress Workshop on Nursing Excellence: Key Practices for Patient Safety
Held on 2nd October 2024, at the Nephrology Auditorium-National Hospital Galle, this workshop focused on nursing practices for patient safety. It offered nurses hands-on learning on essential practices in paediatric patient care, emphasizing the importance of nursing excellence in achieving optimal health outcomes. - Regional Scientific Sessions for Doctors
The main scientific sessions took place on 3rd October 2024, at the Nephrology Auditorium, National Hospital Galle. This event brought together doctors for an engaging session covering a wide range of topics, along with an interactive quiz to enhance learning through participation.

Regional Scientific Session – Jaffna
Regional Scientific Session in Jaffna, organized collaboratively by the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians and the Jaffna Medical Association, unfolded on 19th 20th February 2024.
The inauguration dinner (19th February), held at the Northgate Hotel-Jaffna was attended by distinguished guests including the Director of TH Jaffna and Provisional Director of Health Services Northern Province, Dr Sathiyamoorthy Thangamuthu, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, Prof R. Surendra Kumar, and Regional Director of Health Services-Jaffna, Dr. A. Ketheeswaran. President and few council members of the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians graced the occasion as well.
The academic session held on 20th February 2024 at the Medical Students Hostel Auditorium- Jaffna was a resounding success with the attendance of paediatricians, trainees, and registrars. Distinguished speakers including Prof. Gitanjali Sathiadas, Prof. Randula Ranawaka, Dr. T. Rajeevan, Dr. R. Ajanthan, Dr. Thinojah Seevaratnam, Dr. Nalin Kitulwatte, and Dr. S. Niththiyaruban shared knowledge on advancements in paediatric healthcare.
Regional Sessions Kandy in Collaboration with PeMSAA 2023
Regional Sessions in Kandy took place at the Grand Kandyan Hotel on the 5th and 6th of October 2023. This event was organized by the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians in collaboration with The Peradeniya Medical School Alumni Association (PeMSAA).
The Regional Sessions Kandy brought together esteemed healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts in paediatrics. It provided a platform for participants to exchange knowledge, share valuable insights, and foster collaboration.
